Her Majesty Raja Isteri, First Lady of Brunei

Her Majesty Paduka Seri Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam was born in Brunei Town (now Bandar Seri Begawan), Brunei Darussalam on 7th October 1946.

Her Majesty was married to His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Saaduk Khairi Waddien who was at the time the Crown Prince, on 28th July 1965.

Her Majesty has two sons and four daughters. Her Majesty is also blessed with three grandchildren with whom she spends much of her time. Her eldest son is the Crown Prince of Brunei.

Her Majesty had her early education through private tuition at the surau of Istana Darul Hana. Her Majesty also attended religious classes. Her Majesty studied at the Raja Isteri Girsl’s High School in Bandar Seri Begawan before leaving for London where she studied for two years and completed her studies.

Her Majesty is the Patron to various organisations including the Women’s Institute (WI), Pertiwi Association, PEKERTI, the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam, the Brunei Government Senior Officers Wives Welfare Association (BISTARI), the Women’s Council of Brunei Darussalam, The Women Graduates’ Association, and the Brunei Shell Women Association.

Being a lover of nature, Her Majesty has a fruit garden, a fish pond and a bird park. Her hobbies include reading. Her Majesty likes to play badminton and traditional Brunei games such as Congkak and Pasang.
