Péter Magyar, Prime Minister of Hungary (elected April 12, 2026)

Magyar studied law at Pázmány Péter Catholic University, graduating in 2004. He began his career as a corporate lawyer before joining the Hungarian government, serving in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at Hungary’s Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels. Between 2019 and 2022 he was CEO of the Student Loan Center. He is the great-nephew of former Hungarian President Ferenc Mádl.
A former Fidesz loyalist, Magyar broke publicly with the party in February 2024 following the Katalin Novák presidential pardon scandal, resigning from all government-linked positions and condemning the Orbán government’s governance. He founded the Tisza Party and rapidly became the most prominent opposition figure in Hungary. His pro-European, anti-corruption platform resonated with a record 76.5% voter turnout in 2026.
In his personal life, Magyar lived for approximately a decade in Brussels with his then-wife Judit Varga, who later served as Orbán’s justice minister. The couple divorced in 2023. He has three sons.
Viktor Orbán, Former Prime Minister of Hungary (2010–2026)
Viktor Orbán (born May 31, 1963, in Székesfehérvár, Hungary) served as Prime Minister of Hungary from 1998 to 2002 and again from 2010 to 2026. Leader of the Fidesz party, Orbán oversaw a transformation of Hungary’s political and media landscape during his second tenure, drawing both domestic support and international criticism. He conceded defeat on election night, April 12, 2026, after his party received just 37.8% of the vote and 55 parliamentary seats.
