Kyrgyzstan President Flees the Capital

 

Roza Otunbayeva, Head of the Provisional Government of Kyrgyzstan

President of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, flees the capital after a major public uprising. Roza Otunbayeva, the former Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs, declares herself head of the provisional Government of Kyrgyzstan. Ruslan Kazakbayev is appointed Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan.  Prime Minister Daniyar Usenov submits his resignation to Otunbayeva, who on April 8 announces the formation of the interim Cabinet of Ministers. Ismail Isakov becomes Defense Minister and Bolotbek Sherniyazov becomes Interior Minister of the provisional cabinet.
