Anna Komorowska, Former First Lady of Poland
Anna Komorowska (born 11 May 1953) – Polish-Jewish Classical philologist, the First Lady of Poland and the wife of the President of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski.
She was born as Anna Dziadzia in Warsaw on May 11 1953 as a first child of Józefa Deptuła (real name Hana Rojer) and Jan Dziadzia. Her mother was a daughter of Polish Jews Wolf and Estera Rojer, and worked as a high-profile member of Służba Bezpieczeństwa, the internal intelligence agency established in the communist People’s Republic of Poland. Komorowska’s father worked in Ministry of Public Security of Poland, Polish communist secret police, intelligence and counter-espionage service. Her parents changed their family’s last name to Dembowski in 1954 She has younger sister Elżbieta Dembowska. Anna Dembowska studied at the Tadeusz Rejtan Lyceum, pl:VI Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Tadeusza Reytana w Warszawie, Classical philology at Warsaw University, graduating in 1977 with a master’s degree. Later she was a Latin teacher at a high school. She met Bronisław Komorowski in 1970, when she was a member of the Czarna Jedynka. They married in 1977. They have five children: Zofia (b. 1979), Tadeusz (b. 1981), Maria (b. 1983), Piotr (b. 1986) and Elżbieta (b. 1989). After the introduction of martial law in Poland, her husband was interned. On 31 December 1981 she reached his internment camp as one of first three women ever to do so. After the fall of communism in Poland, she worked for an insurance company for five years.
Her husband is related to Princess Mathilde, Duchess of Brabant, but Mathilde’s mother and Bronisław Komorowski are not great-great-great-great-grandchildren of Polish magnate Count Franciszek Komorowski (1723–1800).
