Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska (née Kyiashko; born 6 February 1978) is a Ukrainian screenwriter who has served as First Lady of Ukraine since 20 May 2019, as the wife of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Born in Kryvyi Rih, she met Volodymyr Zelenskyy at school, later studied architecture at Kryvyi Rih National University, and married him in 2003 after eight years together. They have two children, Oleksandra and Kyrylo. Before becoming First Lady, Zelenska was a screenwriter for the Kvartal 95 studio co-founded by her husband. As First Lady, her pre-war initiatives focused on equal opportunities, reforming school nutrition, mental-health support, and cultural diplomacy. After Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, her work pivoted to humanitarian efforts, including the evacuation of children with disabilities and the founding of the Olena Zelenska Foundation, which supports medicine, education, and long-term recovery in Ukraine. In July 2022, Zelenska became the first foreign first lady ever to address a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress. Time magazine named her one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2023.
