Where's Thailand?
Tom, Thailand is considered a partly free country and not a dictatorship as of 2014. Do you have a different opinion?
Thailand is ruled by a military junta which has enacted martial law which restricts speech and press. There has been no date given for an election. How is that considered "partly free?"
Jay, I believe this data will be updated for 2015 by the Freedom House, and we will update it accordingly on the site. Thank you for your information!
lol I am living in los angeles but I'm from turkey and you guys saying America free Turkey is partialy free I think you don't even know any things about Turkey
I'll trust the experts over someone like you who can't even construct a sentence correctly.
Really? Obama's not on this list?
No but Bush should be
The picture for the president of Mauritania is wrong!! That's actually Mohammed VI the king of Morocco!!
Thank you very much for catching this. We have updated the picture.
I agree China and is not free, but how are the "dictator"? Chinese leader can be brought down by the party anytime the party deems fit. The leader needs to work for the best interest for the party, kinda like CEO working for the board of directors if you will. Also, Russia hold elections regularly, even though we both know what Putin is doing, but labeling Russia "dictatorship" is like calling USA democracy (which is a Republic instead.)
As for China, I agree. I doubt it must be in this list. But Russia.....I lived in Russia (I've relocated a year ago) and I can say that despite there are elections here, people can't vote how they want to. Just one little example: I was a seller in a shoes shop and if I would just say to my boss that I hate Putin (and I really did and do), I would be fired. People are afraid to say aloud what they really think. My country being under the authority of Putin is coming back to The Soviet Union faster than anyone expected that. Most part of people don't even go to elections because they believe that the elections are fake. And they often really are.
These are pitiful achievements. The horrendous amount of money the free part of the World ANNUALLY send to in aid only facilitate to keep these dictators in power. That is no good we Since our politicians are the facilitators we have serious problems with them too.
Why Venezuela was not included on the list? Nicolas Maduro is a dictator!
Thank you for your comment! According to Freedom House, Venezuela is not a dictatorship - https://freedomhouse.org/country/venezuela
I don't think Venezuela has changed since Hugo Chavez....so I think freedomhouse is wrong... 'partly free'? what? come one...
maduro lost elections and now everything was clear, right? when chavez won, everything was unclear, how's that possible?
According to some nitwits that haven't done their homework, indeed!
If they had the guts to send someone with well-placed eyed and ears, a few hours of tasting today's Venezuela would convince them that this country CEASED to be a Democracy long ago!!! Maduro is not only a Dictator, but a liar, an impostor, a thief, and a criminal puppet of the Castro brothers, posing as a "democratically elected" president.
most muslim comuntries are in dictorship ! ..thats too bad .,
they are teocracy, being accurate.
Kim Jong Eun is not president. Kim Il Sung retained the title.
Iran is not a dictatorship like Britain it has a figure head leader and an elected government
